Street
league soccer team beat Luas 3-2 in thrilling charity match

In
a match organized as a fundraiser for The Homeless World Cup trip
to Australia in December, a selection of the Street Soccer panel
short-listed for the World Cup beat a LUAS (Veolia) team in thrilling
and competitive game.
Conditions were perfect with the sun shining and pitch in pristine
condition. Watched by a discerning crowd, supporters were not
disappointed with the fare on offer. In their first outing as
an eleven a side team the Street League hit the ground running
dominating the first half and quickly raced into a 2 goal lead.
Rodge Kiley showed his goal-scoring prowess by netting twice.
It looked ominous for the Luas team with the Street league also
missing a penalty and creating a host of chances. At half time
Luas (Veolia) were happy to go in only 2 adrift.
The second half proved a different affair with the Laus coming
more into it and forcing the pace as Street League began to tire.
It was no surprise to see the Laus score and eventually equalize
through goals by Dominic Bonner and Kevin Kavanagh. With the game
now poised on a knife edge Street league’s Dean (Bucko)
Moore showed his mettle by scoring the winner in the dying minutes.
A delighted Street League manager Dan Carey paid tribute to both
sides for the sporting manner in which the game was played and
expressed delight with the way his team had performed on their
first outing as an eleven a side outfit.
We would like to thank the Veolia (Luas) for their involvement
in organizing the fundraiser and a particular word of thanks to
St Francis Football Club, Baldonnell for the use of their excellent
facilities.
