Athboy Celtic Win Continental Tyres
All Ireland Penalty Shootout competition
In a dramatic final held in AUL complex two teams emerged from a well supported and hard fought Penalty shoot out competition featuring teams from all over Ireland. A young team from Meath Athboy Celtic fought through the preliminary rounds to contest the final against a very experienced Hardwicke team from Dublin's inner city captained by former Irish International Tommy Morgan.
With the score at 13 –11 to Athboy, Hardwicke's captain Tommy Morgan stepped up to take his three penalties knowing if he scored all three they would become Champions. Tommy duly put his first two away and with the pressure mounting and to the delight of Athboy Celtic had his forth penalty saved.
It was now sudden death and Athboy Celtic proved their mettle by scoring first and with all the pressure on Hardwicke it fell to Athboy's keeper to win the trophy for the Meath men with a magnificent save.
It was a dramatic end to a fantastic day.
