Rugby Penalty shootout Old Belvedere Rugby Club 20th June 08

The
rain held off as teams fought for the title of Rugby Penalty shootout
kings 2008.
The event was held to raise funds for Ireland’s Street League
Soccer team, which will depart for the Homeless World Cup in Australia
in December.
The teams were expertly coached on the day by rugby legend Ollie
Campbell whose shooting prowess needs no introduction, with former
rugby teammates Ciaran Fitzgerald, Fergus Slattery and Mick Quinn
popping in and adding their advice. It was a splendid occasion
with the Garda Siochana winning the coveted prize of a trip to
Italy,( includes, flights, hotel accommodation, match tickets
for five to the 6 nations championships in the New Year). The
Garda scored an incredable 13 conversions from 15 with Landwell
solicitors coming in second with 10.
In a magnanimous gesture -and one that reflects on the calibre
of people who form the Garda Siochana - they donated their winning
prize back to the Street league to help raise further funds. It
was a truly magnificent gesture.
On behalf of Streetleague I would like to thank all those who
helped make this a brilliant day.
A special word of thanks to James Stafford and Old Belvedere Rugby
Club for the use of their splendid facilities and of course Mr.
Ollie Campbell for supporting this event from day one.
