STREET
LEAGUE COMMEMORATES SIMON AND KEN IN SPECIAL ONE-DAY TOURNAMENT.

Saturday April 28th was a poignant day for the Street league as
we held a special one-day street soccer tournament in commemoration
two of our lads who died recently Simon Canning captain of our
Homeless World Cup team and Ken McGregor a member of the Crosscare
team. Both lads left a lasting impression on all who knew them
and the tragedy of their untimely deaths had a profound effect
on their teammates.
It was decided amongst the lads that it would a fitting tribute
to hold a tournament to commemorate their friends.
Both Simon and Ken were active participants in the League and
they would have appreciated the turnout and competitiveness of
the football. 14 teams participated in total. With Casp (Clondalkin
addiction support program) overcoming a Garda contingent from
Store Street 3-1 to win the Simon Canning Memorial Trophy. The
trophy was presented to the successful team by Simon’s mother
Louise, while Sheriff St won the Ken McGregor Cup, which Ken’s
mother presented.
It was a beautiful sunny day, a splendid days football and a fitting
tribute to Simon and Ken.
