All Ireland Street Soccer finals 2008

Dublin overcome Limerick 1-0 in tightly contested Final. 200 lads meet up to compete in a great sporting occasion Shaun Anthony reports.

Wednesday 28th May saw the 5th All Ireland Street Soccer finals organized by Ireland’s Issues Magazine. The event was held in Clondalkin Community Sports and Leisure centre an excellent facility. Twenty-four street teams including teams from Cork, Limerick and Dublin representing various groups participated. Unlike last year weather conditions were perfect and this was reflected in the overall standard of play. As well as the mantle of All Ireland Street Soccer champions the players also had the incentive to compete for a place in the international team that will represent Ireland in the forthcoming Homeless World Cup in Australia. Throughout the day our coaching staff were carefully running the rule over all the players and have chosen a panel of players which will get together over the coming weeks for special coaching sessions before a final selection is made.
The final was a very competitive affair with The Warriors from Cabra overcoming Limerick Southside Sports Academy by the slender margin 1-0 to take home the Fair City trophy for the second year running. Many thanks to all involved who made this such a special occasion?
• Many thanks to all our sponsors and partners without whom this would not be possible
