Ireland were beaten this morning 6-2 by holders Mexico in the opening match of the second round of the Homeless World Cup. It was disappointing for the Irish who found themselves trailing 4-0 at half time.
The second half saw a spirited fight back by Ireland with goals by Lar Bryan and Jordan Scally reducing the deficit but while pushing forward in search of more goals they conceded 2 quick goals in the closing stages to lose 6-2.
Ireland 5 Hungary 4
Ireland started quickly but despite their early dominance could not find the back of the net. Eventually they took the lead with a fine goal by Fitzpatrick. Hungary quickly equalised however and although Ireland went in front again through Lar Bryan they conceded another while seeking to build a 2-goal cushion, at half time the score was 2 apiece.
The second half was a nervy one with Ireland dominant but again failing to take the chances they created despite this however they managed to build a 5-3 lead with goals by Jordan Scally, Lar Bryan, and James Lanigan, with 30 seconds remaining Ireland conceded again but managed to see the game out in an nervy finish.
With games against Chile tomorrow Wednesday 31st, 12pm and Bulgaria 12pm and Costa Rico 3.20 on Thursday Ireland need to finish in the top 2 to progress to the quarterfinal stage.
