Ireland Qualify to group stage of the Homeless World Cup.
Ireland 6 Wales 2
They lined up against Wales knowing that defeat would end any hope of winning the World Cup. After a quiet start in which both sides were easing their way into the game Ireland began to dominate and opened the scoring through Thomas Mc Donagh . It was no more than they deserved and they quickly raced into a 3-0 lead but Wales fought back and reduced the arrears to 3-1 however Ireland scored from the restart and although they found goals had to come by, they dominated play and with coach Mick Pender utilizing all his squad they ran out easy winners 6-2.
Ireland 11 Sweden 3
Now all that remain between Ireland and a place in the 2nd round was Sweden.
Although Sweden put up a sturdy performance you could see the confidence return to the Irish team and in a game they completely dominated from start to finish the score line of 11-2 was a fair reflection of the teams performance However the heat is a major factor in this tournament with temperatures reaching 35 degrees and while Ireland perform well against European sides it remains to be seen how well they will cope against the South American sides to whom the soaring temperatures appear to be of no concern.
First game of the group stages kicks off at 3.20pm Irish time (11.20am local time) against Romania who have done very well so far and displayed some impressive skills so let's hope today is a little cooler.
