This day offers a unique opportunity to meet and talk to men and women from all corners of Ireland who are overcoming adversity with the help of football. 250 players representing teams from Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Limerick, Portlaoise, Galway, Longford and Waterford will showcase their talents.
Will the next Messi, Bale, Robbie Keane or Stephanie Roche emerge from this unique collection of players ?
The competition is sure to be fierce as not only will the teams be striving to win the All Ireland Trophy but individuals will be trying to impress the coaches who will be using the tournament to select a panel of players to represent Ireland in the Homeless World Cup, to be held in Oslo, Norway, Aug 29th - 5th Sept 2017.
We are delighted to announce that for the first time ever Ireland will be sending both a male & female team.
The male team, coached by Tommy Morgan, (who played for Blackburn Rovers in 1995 when they won the Premier League, as well as St Patrick’s Athletic and Bray Wanderers,) at the helm for the last 2 years, reached the final of the Plate competition in 2015 and won it last year. We’re hoping the team selected on April 26th will make it another memorable tournament for Ireland.
Women’s team coach, Graham Tucker, a former Ireland Homeless World Cup Captain himself, is excited to showcase their talents. Graham has been running the Pearse St Street League for two years and coached our first Women's National side in the Five Nations tournament in Belfast in Sept 2016, coming a very creditable 2nd.
Minister for Children & Youth Affairs Katherine Zappone, Father Peter McVerry, Brother Kevin Crowley of the Cappucin Centre, representatives from the FAI, partners Arup and Irish Homeless Street League founder Sean Kavanagh along with some other high profile guests and supporters will be cheering on the teams and presenting trophies.
