IRELAND 1 - 6 UKRAINE
OFFICIAL MATCH REPORT
The Republic of Ireland had a famous movie star supporter on pitch one this afternoon for their first game of the Homeless World Cup against Ukraine. Hollywood actor Colin Farrell joined the Irish team on the field for their national anthem and was pitch side cheering them on throughout.
Ukraine opened the scoring but the Irish quickly equalised. Captain Joseph Thompson finished a well-worked move making the score 1-1. Ukraine scored a second on six minutes, and got their third just before the break with seconds left. At halftime, the score was 3-1.
Ireland continued to press but could not get back in the game. The Ukraine team managed to take advantage of their chances and at the final whistle, the game was won 6-1 by the men in yellow.
After the game Farrell said: “This event brings a great sense of inclusion. It is an extraordinary thing to be around. It was a tough game, but you move on. We still have four more games to go.”
